Just a few important reminders for students to make sure their year runs smoothly.

The 2011-2012 school is in full swing and is looking to be a great year under the guidance of Mr. Williams. Here are a few reminders to make sure the start of the school year keeps running smoothly:

Whooping Cough

If you have not already, please get your Whooping Cough Vaccine before September 10, 2011. Please make sure to give a copy of your updated shot recrod to Ms. Santana in the clinic if you have already received your shot.

School Loop

If you do not yet have a School Loop account, please visit the link on the home page of fhspress.com. Teachers should urge their students to create an account to keep updated with their classes and assignments.

Library information

If you have not picked up your textbooks, go to the library and check them out. The library will not allow students in until everyone has checked out their books for the year.

The Foothill High School library is open from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. You can take full advantage of the computers, word processing program, an online magazine articles research program, the World Book Encyclopedia and new books, to help with all of your research needs.

Also, don't forget that if you go to the library during class, please bring a pass with you to present to the librarians.

Ask the DMV

The DMV office in Sacramento has asked fhspress.com to post a few frequently asked questions from teens just like you, to help clear up any confusion you might have about driving related problems.

Q: I have heard that a ticket for texting while driving does not count as a point against your driving record. Is this true?

A: Yes, it is true that a ticket for texting while driving, or for driving with a hand-held telephone, will not lead to a point on your driving record, though the infraction will show on your driving record if convicted. Current legislation is working its way through the California legislature seeking to increase the fine of the violation. For more information on current texting laws and fees, visit www.DMV.ca.gov.

Q: I hear that DMV now has a smartphone application. What does the application do?

A: The application is called "DVM NOW." With this application, in conjunction with iPhone, iPad, or iTouch GPS capabilities and Android phones, you will be able to locate nearby DMV offices, receive alerts from the DMV informing you about updates on new laws and regulations and take a sample driving test and receive instant results. The application also offers educational driving videos on topics such as motorcycle skills, rules of the road, and sharing the road. You can learn more about this new application by viewing the instructional video on the DMV website.

If you have any more questions please visit www.DMV.ca.gov/teenweb.

YEARBOOK REMINDER: If you purchased the 2010-2011 yearbook late last year, you can pick up your copy on Monday in Mr. Dommer's classroom, T4, at lunch or after school.
