A weekly recap of sports teams at Foothill High School. Coaches, captains, and players are encouraged to send detailed team information and stats to sports@fhspress.com.

Football

Last Saturday our JV Mustangs had a game against Mira Loma, winning with the final score of 36-6. Things seem to continue to be improving, with the blow out being a good example of what our Mustangs can do. They have no games for the next two weeks, and then we kick off conference play with a game at Colfax.

Varsity Mustangs lost their non-conference game against Mira Loma on Saturday with a final score of 33-14. The game started off well enough with David Sanders hooking up with wide receiver Kelly Bender two times for a touchdown in the first quarter. After that, the Mustangs started making mistakes, giving up five fumbles in the game. Hopefully they can rebound in their away game against Lincoln. This will be the start of conference play for our Varsity Mustangs.

Boys Soccer

Our JV Mustangs has played two games in the last week, winning only one of them though. Last weeks game was a non-conference loss against El Camino, with the final score being 6-1. Yesterday's game ended with a shut out against Colfax, with the end score of 1-0. With it being the first league game for our JV Mustangs, we move forward in conference play at a 1-0 record.

Our Varsity Mustangs played two games this past week, but sadly won neither of them. Last weeks games against El Camino ended in a 3-2 loss, with James Ramos, and Luis Romero scoring both of our Mustang goals. Yesterday's game against Colfax ended in a 2-0 loss. With league games starting, hopefully our Mustangs will begin to improve, and take home the PVL Championship again this year.

Volleyball

Our JV Mustangs lost their non-conference game against Grant last week, ending with both sets going in Grant's favor. Our girls are improving, continuing to work hard though, and learning from their mistakes. Next week marks the start of league game for them, and hopefully they will be ready.

Our Varsity Mustangs won their non-conference game against Grant last week, ending with three sets going to our Mustangs, and only one going to Grant. With this win, they are feeling strong as the begin conference play next week, with their game being at home against Colfax.

Cross Country

Cross Country had their first league meet at Gibson Ranch. Five of our Mustang runners placed in the top ten. Three were our JV Girls; Abigail Cendejas placing fifth, Chaidez Santos placing sixth, and Gabriela Regalado placing tenth. One was a JV boy,Leo Ochoa, who placed sixth. Lastly, our senior captain, and varsity runner, Jake Larson, placing tenth in the meet. Great things are to be expected from this year's runners, as they travel to William Jessup University on October eighth.

Water Polo

Water Polo had a practice game against Rio Linda on Monday. The game was close, being decided by a three point difference. Rotation was a key factor, as players were kept fresh, and few mistakes were made. Our Mustangs are still improving, and have the hopes of scrimmaging against Oakmont or Antelope in the near future.
