After catapulting themselves to within one game of the state championship, the Mustangs fell just short, losing 66-46 to Bishop O'Dowd on March 13. We packed the house with students and faculty, as they got a bus and drove to the game.
The game was very emotional for the Mustangs, and although they lost , everyone is still proud of how far they made it.
Before the post season started, the team was named the CVC Champs with an undefeated league season, and an overall record of 24-3. The long road that has been the playoffs for the team had just begun.
It all started with the first leg of the Sac-Joaquin Sections playoffs. They had blown out every team leading up to the game at Power Balance Pavilion (ARCO Arena). The scores from the games were Dixon (66-46), Natomas (76-48), and Lindhurst (59-39). When the Mustangs played against Sierra, they were the "underdog" team, and in the end they also blew out Sierra, 74-52.
With that leg of the playoffs done, the Mustangs waited to see who they would be playing on Saturday, March 3, and it turned out to be El Cerrito. The game stayed close the whole night, but only because the Mustangs shot less than 50% from the free throw line (15 of 34), but in the end, the Mustangs won the game, 50-46.
Although their season is over, the Mustangs went further than most thought they could. Ending with the record of 29-4; they swept the CVC league going 10-0, and proved most people wrong as they won the Section title in grand fashion, and went 5-1 in the playoffs.
