As some may have already seen, there have been a few technological additions to Foothill this year. Teachers and students alike can appreciate how convenient a SMART Board can be compared to a white board, and exactly how fun it can be to use a clicker.
SMART Response Remotes are fairly new educational products which are often referred to as 'clickers.' They have taken place of practice quizzes for some of our classrooms, such as Mrs. Deborah Young's chemistry class and Mr. Eric Saltzen's math course.
SMART Boards allow the students to get more involved in a lesson. They often pay a lot more attention when they are able to interact with their subject, rather than sitting in their seat and trying to follow along.
"I can let a group of students up near the board to figure out a problem, while I can help others in their seats." said Young, who enjoys that her SMART Board has given her the ability to multitask.
As for clickers, figuring out how to use them is pretty easy. All you need to do is have your student ID number memorized, which is something that most of the school population should already know by heart. Once you have typed in your number and confirmed exactly who you are, the rest is simple. Questions will be supplied by your teacher, and you can immediately type in the letter or phrase that you believe is the right answer. Click the submit button, and you are good to go. How many you answer correctly will be revealed to all students at the same time via a SMART Board or a regular projector, once the pre-quiz is over. Watch out though, the SMART Response Remote software allows teachers to see who has and hasn't answered a question at a certain time. That means no dragging your feet or waiting for someone to give you the answer!
Pretty much everyone can agree that new technology at Foothill makes a lot of peoples' lives a lot easier.
