There’s a new mustang on campus. Have you seen him?
A mustang statue was unveiled in the quad on September 8, 2015. The quad is the common courtyard area for students to enter the cafeteria, main gym, and main office.
“The statue was bought to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Foothill High School,” said Nancy Dexter, school secretary. The original plan was to unveil the statue on September 7, 2015 because Foothill opened on September 7, 1965 but, it was a national holiday this year (Labor Day).
The statue had been in the works for about a year. After a lot of research, FHS Principal Brian Welborn decided to purchase it.
“To celebrate the 50th anniversary, we decided we needed something that made a statement,” said Welborn. The statue was installed Thursday, September 3, and was kept covered till the unveiling.
Many different places were thought of when deciding where to place the statue. In the end, Welborn thought it would be best to place it in the quad. The mustang is the first of many pieces in the process of the redesign of the quad. The statue represents all the past, present, and future students of Foothill.
“We wanted to something special for the school and the alumni,” said Dexter.
ASB President Kaylyn Raymundo is excited to have the statue for her senior year.
“I think the statue represents are pride and spirit of the school,” said Raymundo.
