Joel Manfredi is an English teacher who is new to Foothill High School. He started teaching because he loves the interaction with kids and the energy in the classroom. He remembers being bored as a kid, so he tries to create a classroom that is engaging. If he wasn’t a teacher, he would be a fireman, because it’s exciting and every day is different, like teaching.
Manfredi is from Stockton, California. For high school, he went to Health Career Academy High School in Stockton. After high school, he went to three different colleges. There was San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, San Francisco State University in San Francisco, and CSU Stanislaus in Turlock.
“I went to San Joaquin because it was cheap and I could get my two years of general ed. out of the way,” said Manfredi. “The next four years were at San Fran so I could get my bachelor’s degree, and I went to Stanislaus for my master's.”
Manfredi’s goal is that he wants his students to become ‘ACEs’ (Academically proficient, Critical thinkers, and Effective communicators).
“I want my students to become curious and lifelong learners,” stated Manfredi.
Manfredi also likes to teach English because the ability to communicate is the most important thing someone could have.
“We have the ability to pass on stories,” he says, “while others cannot.”
So if you’re interested in meeting a new fun English teacher, stop by N12, and say "Hi" to Mr. Manfredi!
