Inna Barchuk, a FHS senior, ran at a college level cross-country race on November 24, 2015.
“My coach invited me. My coach thought I was ready for a college level competition so he wanted me to see what it was like,” said Barchuk.
She competed at the William Jessup Invatational.
Despite only being a high school senior, Barchuk’s coach, Kevin Clancy, saw that she was ready to get her first taste of college cross country. Clancy even paid for Barchuk’s $15 entry fee because it also happened to be on her 17th birthday.
“I was very nervous because those girls have been running for years whereas I have been running for two months,” said Barchuk.
Barchuk was one of only three runners who were not college students.
“My coach said in context, I did well because this was my first season and I still beat 22 girls,” said Barchuk. ”I learned that there’s a lot of room for improvement, I’m proud that I didn’t come in last place.”
Inna Barchuk is now looking into running cross-country during college.
