Our 2015-2016 Teacher of the Year is Jennifer Jim. She teaches beginning band, advanced band, string orchestra, AVID, and AP music theory.
“This is my seventh year teaching and my fourth at Foothill,” said Jim.
Every year, a committee of students, teachers, and faculty meet and nominate teachers of the year based on how hard they work, how well they teach, and help students. The Teacher of the Year receives a special plaque and attends a banquet honoring his or her work.
“Ms. Jim is one of the most encouraging teachers I’ve ever had the chance to learn from,” says Mary Bivens, a junior at FHS.
“I have her for AP Music Theory and I really look up to her,” continued Bivens, “she definitely deserves this award because she goes above and beyond for her students. I am grateful to learn from such an amazing teacher.”
Once a Teacher of the Year is chosen for a school he or she have the option of writing an essay and competing for Teacher of the Year for the entire district. Then, he or she compete for Teacher of the Year on the state level.
“Of course I’m going to compete at a higher level,” said Jim.
“Ms. Jim is one of the most inspiring and encouraging teachers who always pushes her students to do more," says Alex Silva, FHS senior. "With teaching AP music theory, AVID, and organizing concerts, she can easily get the award of Teacher of the Year any year and I hope she will win Teacher of the Year at the district level.”
Let’s all support Ms. Jim and help her win Teacher of the Year for our entire school district. Go Mustangs!
