FHS Christian Club hosted a great thanksgiving potluck on November 15 during lunch for students to come, eat, and see what Christian Club was all about. Members of the club showed their appreciation for the blessings that God had given them by having their thanks filmed by the club’s president, Nadia Long. Christian Club members and leaders gave thanks to God, staff, teachers, friends, and their life circumstances. The film of thankyou notes was to be an encouragement for incoming visitors and staff members so as to build up the school morale.
Being a thanksgiving party as it was, there was food: sweet ham, mashed potatoes, baklava, soda, and pumpkin pie were served at the event. Unfortunately, the baklava went fast, then the pie and soda.
As the club’s top advisor, Jasmine Spoelman held a conversation with club attendants about their day. How was it? Was it so-so? Was your day excellent? By being down at their level she was able to have them show a bit of themselves.
“I really felt like we connected as group,” said Spoelman.
The open dialogue was refreshing and needed for the upcoming season of thanksgiving and charity.
At the end, Alan Garrett, the club advisor, led a prayer with some of the club attendants. They stood in a circle holding hands as they lifted their hearts to God. The site was tender and solemn as thanks and requests were made in word and mind, leaving everyone a little lighter going away than when they came in.
