A week to think about

Suicide Prevention week at FHS, results and thoughts.

Last week was Suicide Prevention Week at Foothill. Leadership asked students to wear purple or turquoise on Thursday. Suicide is a big issue in society today, especially among teens.

I feel like last week was successful. I saw a lot of participation on Thursday, whether it was just the ribbon the leadership passed out or it was actually dressing up. Teachers had stories about what that day meant to them and how they’ve been through seeing their students go through things and not being able to help.

Suicide is a serious issue and hearing words around school like “kill yourself,” whether you’re just joking or not, is sickening. If you’re contemplating taking your own life, just know that there are people you can talk to: family, friends, teachers, and there is even a hotline you can call if you’re having suicidal thoughts 1-800-273-8255.

Before taking your life, think about what and who you have to live for not about what to die for.
