Caroline Hopkins is a new 10th grade English teacher and is also the new swim coach. She is originally from Michigan and went to college at Michigan State University.
Hopkins moved to Bakersfield, California in 2008 to teach at Mira Monte High. Hopkins moved to Sacramento a month ago and saw a new job opportunity. She really liked the diversity here at the school.
When I asked her what success in the classroom meant to her she quoted W.B Yeates:“Education is not the filling of a pail but the lighting of a fire.”
Hopkins tells her students that she can be the spark but they’re the ones who are responsible for keeping their interest going, finding something that interests them and letting that desire for learning that fire to continue to grow. She likes promoting creativity, working with students, and assisting them in fostering their own improvement. On her free time she watches movies and writes screenplays.
Hopkins didn’t always know she wanted to be a teacher. She did always love writing but with being a teacher she can foster that love in other students and also help others with their writing. That is what drove her to being a teacher. Her mother was also a teacher but she taught lower grade levels. Hopkins knew she only wanted to teach high school students.
