Get your act together, Foothill High
Posted September 8, 2011
Editor,
What ever happened to the very beloved, heart-warming feel of High School? What ever happened to those precious High School views that everyone used to have? Lockers were one of the iconic "I am in High School now" signs. They are one of those things that give a student space and independence. It is a shame that almost every rule within our school has changed in the past 20 years. High school is handled with elementary guidelines now. We are treated like little kids, in which we are. But you must understand that at this point in a teenager's life, WE NEED INDEPENDENCE. I saw somebody post on the topic of blue and red clothing. I agree with her statement for the most part. We are not animals. We are teenagers. This means we need respect and independence. It may not be deserved for most of the students. But if it is not given, they will rebel, and they will lose respect more and more day by day. Please give it a shot. These years are priceless for many. Show the parents, staff, and students in your area that you ARE willing to trust the students of FHS. You have PSO's. That should be enough to ensure safety. If not, why pay for them? It's just time to get the act of Foothill High School together. Notice the lack of spirit in the last 5 years? I have.

Students still want lockers
Updated October 27, 2010
Editor,
I totally agree that we should have lockers again. I have severe back and shoulder pains because my backpack is so heavy. It weighs 23 pounds. Twenty-three! This is a huge problem. I hate to complain, but really, lockers are a must.

I do think we should have lockers because of the book problem. A few positives for lockers is that a student wouldn't have to carry books to and from class everyday. Maybe not even to and from school depending on if the teacher assigns work out of the book. Students would have less back and shoulder pains. Lockers could be an object to help students be more organized with their school work. A few negatives about having lockers is that some students might keep food in it and attract bugs. Some might store objects that aren’t allowed at school. I think that if we get lockers, we can have security or teachers check lockers regularly. That would discourage students from trying to bring anything to school that they shouldn't. If you don’t agree with having lockers again, why not let students use cabinets? There are already cabinets in classrooms so we should store our books there. They are safe, we know where they are, and we can't hide anything in there because the teachers will have access to it. With the cabinets, students are more likely to have there books at school everyday. Books will be easier to track and there will be less damage done to the book because it is taken out less than it usually would. We should have lockers or at least get to store our books in the cabinets.

Teachers should lead by example
Posted October 26, 2010
Editor,
Why do we keep changing the school? Stop changing the school! The lockers are gone and we can’t go out to eat. The colors red and blue are worn every other day by teachers, so why can’t students wear them? We need to establish actual rules instead of what most students and teachers use only as guidelines. Do you really expect us not to wear red and blue if the teachers do? It is unfair. Students used to be able to go out and eat lunch, but can’t anymore. Teachers are allowed to. Yeah I know, you’re all adults, but so are some of the seniors. We also have some very mature sophomores and juniors. Even some freshmen are mature. If you really don’t want any outbreaks in the school rules then stop letting the teachers do things we can’t do.

Lockers on the mind of many

We need lockers if we’re going to have to carry our books now. Some people can’t carry five books around all day. My backpack broke the other day because I had too many books.

I think that the school should get the lockers back because we have to carry our books around all day. You can get hall monitors to check the lockers every day to keep anything illegal from happening. I just hope that you consider it.

I honestly think that this school needs to get lockers! I see other students carrying around two-three books every day with them. I assume that other student are getting tired of carrying them around. I think it would be better for the school and the students.

Lockers! Man, what is up with us not having lockers? Years ago, we couldn't have lockers because people would use them for bad use only. At night, people would come to the school and put bad materials in the slots of the lockers. Because we now have gates around the whole school, I don't think any one will come on school campus to do that. I would really like to have lockers at the school because now we have to carry our books every day. That is a big pain.

What I don't like about this school year is that we have to carry multiple books around. It would be better if we had lockers. If we carry books too much we can get injured. Then our parents will get involved and worry about their child getting hurt. If we had lockers we wouldnt worry about that.

With the new school year starting up again, many students have been told they need to take their books to school every day for certain classes. Most kids hate that idea for many reasons. Some students have to walk to and from school every day so carrying all books just wouldn't work for them. Other students just hate having to carry them around school all day. To make it easier and better for students, we should have lockers somewhere that the students will have easy access to.

The Twin River district should really do something about the books that we all have to carry. I think its just too much work for teenagers. We have to carry books that add up to about 85 pounds. Thats almost as much I weigh! They should either have a class set for every class or even better, we should get lockers. That would be awesome. I really hope that they do something about this soon.

I think it is too bad that the school doesn't have lockers for us to put our books in. We wouldn't have to carry them from class to class. I think that P.E. is the only place we have lockers, and its only for the uniforms. They should put them in to make our life in school better.

I think our school needs lockers because i cant carry 50 pounds of books every day. It gets tiring. If we got lockers, it would help a lot.

I think we need lockers. For one, kids like me, who walk home carrying three huge books, might have long term effects on our backs. Now I know there are down sides to having lockers, but if we can't get lockers, the teachers should put our books in cabinets and lock them up until we need them. To me, that seems easier and less time consuming.

Improvement on school rules wanted
Posted September 15, 2010
Editor,
Certain school rules seem to be pointless or simply just not working. The dress code of red and blue not being allowed in school could possibly be changed or modified so that it can’t be used in relation to gang affiliation. A red shirt with a happy face could hardly be considered gang affiliated. An open school could also cut down on the amount of people who crowed into the one small lunch room we have all at the same time, or at least separate the school into two different lunch groups. It takes some people the whole lunch break just to get to the front of the line sometimes. The complete ban on electronic devices at school seems a bit extreme. Yes, they should be kept away during classes, but listening to music or texting a friend during lunch and after school would not interrupt any one's education.

I think the school should be open up or consider changing the rules in some way. For example, students should be allowed to go out and eat whatever they want during lunch if they are capable of coming back to school before the end of the lunch period. Red and blue clothing should be allowed during school. Electronics shouldn't be out in class, but allowed outside of it.

Students want blue and red

Editor,
Why cant you wear blue or red clothing to school? I don’t get it, you guys kicked out all the gangbangers. If a person moved out here, and most of their clothes are red or blue, they’ll have to go to the store to buy new clothes. People don’t have a lot of money!

I think that the school should allow student to wear blue or red because a lot of students can't afford new clothes with the economy. Their parents don't have that much money to buy new clothes for all their kids that go to FHS school and students have mostly blue or red in their closet.

I think students should be allowed to wear red or blue to school beacause most students have onlyred or blue clothing. They cant even wear it to school without getting in trouble. You can tell when you are looking at a gang member and when your looking at a regular student. I think the school should allow red and blue clothing on campus.

What is with the dress code? The fact that we can not wear red or blue is crazy. But the fact that we can not wear tank tops, halter tops, or half shirts is just absurd! Most of the clothes that i own, i am not allowed to wear at school. I just don't understand why can't wear what we want or simply what we already have. We have to spend more money on clothes. That is a waste. I just think that FHS should get a grip on this unnecessary dress code. It's irrelevent.

I believe that the rule against blue and red clothes is ridiculous. I really dislike how most students aren't able to wear a certain color simply because of a slim possibility of gang affiliation. A lot of my wardrobe contains blue, and due to this rule, I'm unable to wear the majority of the stuff I own. Please reconsider this.

Open up to an open campus
Posted September 15, 2010

I think we should have an open campus because the food here at school is not very good. We should be able to go to McDonalds, or Taco Bell, to get some better food. I think if we do have an open campus, students should, and will, come back on time to school. We would be able to keep having an open campus.

I think that when we have a rally, they should release students depending on what grade they're in. When they let everyone out at the same time it just makes a big mess and it takes forever to get in.

Football team ready to win

This year's football team is looking fantastic. They consist of a new set of seniors, including some new transfers from Center High School and one transfer from Vallejo. This year is being led by quaterback Thomas Tiapula. With the coaching of Allen Berg and his offensive coach Neiler. The team is looking like they might actually win a championship.

Keeping the campus clean
Posted September 15, 2010
Editor,
Foothill High School has a lot of problems. Cleaning up is one of them. Did you know there is only one janitor at the school that cleans during the day, and only one that cleans up at night? I think the school needs an extra two to three janitors for help with cleaning up the messes around the campus. I looked around almost every class, and I've only seen one of the garbages emptied in the last four days that I have been here. The cleanliness of this school is going to go down if we don't have extra custodial support. Although the school is facing budget cuts, please consider an extra janitor around the school. Thank you.

The first day of school, I noticed there was a lot of gum and garbarge on campus. I heard from many teachers that there are only two janitors. I'm trying my best to throw away any garbarge I see. It's very hard to keep a school clean alone. We need to help out, as a school, to keep it nice and clean. So when people visit our school they won't think negatively of it.

I noticed that Foothill has a lot of problems. The biggest problem I noticed was that the computers in every classroom are running slow. Teachers use their computer more than everything else in their rooms. They use computers for grades, attendance, e-mail, and much more. If teachers got new computers, school would be easier. I think the school should buy new computers for teachers.

Why is the school so broke? I find it ridiculous that Mr. (Will0) Brown can have a plasma t.v. in his office, but we can't have computers in computer class. They can afford to buy more golf carts, but can't hire any more janitors. I know every school is going through budget cuts, but when we have money to spend we should spend it on the things that need to be improved or replaced.

Class schedule changes concerns gaurdian
Posted September 15, 2010
Editor,
I am quite distressed over the schedule change! I understand that classes need to be leveled, but there is always change by the 2nd semester. The original classes are important to new freshmen. They should not go through anything more traumatic than new classes. This is really unacceptable, and I believe you are going to suffer with this decision.
